5.0.0 9.0.0a13 It would be nice if the DXF translator could rescale layers all layer to a size to match a specified layer in the drawing. An instance is: We usually have a drawing title block at 1:1 and in translation it stays at real size in relation to the other layers, so if the rest of the drawing is at 1/8" scale the title block is 96 times smaller than it appeared in MiniCad.
5.0.0b9 9.0.0a9 Linked text exported via DXF converts to rec field default rather than specified value.

6.0.1 9.0.0a13 A way MiniCad could translate a DXF saved in Paperspace so one could view the separate paperspace 'drawings' as separate drawings in MC. This is a nice flexibility provided by Autocads Model and Paperspace technique.
6.0.1b3c3 9.0.0a11 DXF out of all fonts and dxf in to new file: The fonts when imported do not maintain the look that it has. Instead they are all substatuted with one font.

7.0.0 9.0.0 Worksheets have inconsistent menu interface: some items are in the worksheet menu, some in the main menus.

7.0.1 9.0.0a9 I have just come across a very strange thing in a DWG import-text blocks
that have their type size set to -1. Has anyone ever seen this before? I am
having a hard time fixing them with minipascal because the GetTextSize(h)
procedure reports back a size of 1, not -1, which of course makes sense,
since type size can't be negative. In any case, I suspect that this is a
bug in the DWG import; obviously(?@!) the text wasnt set to a negative size
in the original file.

7.0.3 9.0.0a1 Exporting to DXF, 3D symbols whose z axis is not parallel to the layer's z axis get rotated.
7.0.3 9.0.0a1 This detail from my brotherHere's the way we perceive the problem. When a "truetype to polyline"
command is executed, it seems that it will not consider characters whose
ASCII code is over 127, or seven bits. Since all accented characters have
a code over 127, and we use them a lot, all these characters are lost.
Since these characters are often built with a reference to the non
accented character ("é" from "e" and "´"), we thought this might be the
problem. All references in the font were transformed into actual outlines,
but the problem persisted.

The problem is not with the actual characters. We tested that, by moving
the code for "é" (normally ASCII 233 - 0xe9) to the exclamation mark
(ASCII 33 - 0x21) and it worked as expected.

The font was produced with Fontographer, Macintosh version 4.1.5 And this that is a worst problem. I sent letters to be cut in metal . It took hours to send via e-mail and the company told me that event if it is polyline they cannot process it, it is to heavy. I noticed that problem earlier. When I write a word in a projet, that I command true type to polyline and extrude the word to make a 3D, If I try to render it , it freezes my computer, it takes hours.I wrote a e-mail to a friend in France that has Vertor Works 8.0 (lucky one I am just an artist and already bouth to versions) it seems he as all the same problems
8.0.0 9.0.0b1 Test file crashes in DXF export in under low memory conditions.
8.0.0 9.0.0a3 The data/mode bar flicker/redraw several times when switching between a palette and the document on Windows.
8.0.0 9.0.0a12 If you try to open a large plug-in in the Plug-in editor (such as Complex Window.vso, 76k) on Windows, the message that the plug-in is greater than 32k and cannot be opened on the Macintosh appears. When you click OK, the VectorScript editor opens with an empty file. If you click OK, the empty file is saved over the existing plug-in.
8.0.0 9.0.0a2 It seems that the transparency slider in the texture dialog is working backwards.

8.0.0 9.0.0b9 Exporting trailer information for worksheet cells corrupts the trailer data. The following code was exported from a worksheet where the cell was formatted to have a trailer of " nom."

LoadCell(3,3,'=LENGTH/12');
SprdFormat(0,0,'ÌÏ, ','');

The formula cell and database subrows were selected.
8.0.0 9.0.0b9 Export of worksheets appears to have serious problems. Running exported worksheet VS code in a new document creates a corrupt worksheet.

The test file contains a small worksheet which pulls in data from the walls in the document. Export the document as VS and cut/paste the worksheet generation code into script in a clone of the test document (perform a Save As of the document, then delete worksheet and objects).

Run the script. The worksheet will be corrupted. Adding new walls and recalculating does not correct the problem.

8.0.0 9.0.0a14 A very gross scrolling bug shows up with graphics cards that use the NVidia Riva TNT chipset. Cards such as Diamond viper 550, STB Velocity 4400 exhibit this bug.

Using the pan tool move the drawing. Resize, then move the drawing.
Open the import image dialog. Hit cancel. Try to scroll or pan in many directions.
These are the types of actions that have shown this bug. It is a problem with the windows ScrollDC call. I think the fix may be to just scroll using our own method.
8.0.0 9.0.0b1 I've created a model of a two story residential addition, wherein I have used quite a few simple doors and windows (PIO's) from the AEC palette. I have created two drawing sheets in another part of the file and created a layer link (2D) for each layer to do the working drawings. When I create the layer link everything is fine until I zoom in on the link and the PIO's disappear. If I zoom way out they somehow reappear. They have not plotted.

8.0.0 9.0.0a17 Customer file represents several Worksheet related bugs.

Worksheet with one row and "Database Headers" off and no subrows acts funny. Asserts. Adding rows, turning on headers, works ok, but sometimes the subrows are blank even though the header cells show sum of subrows data. Clicking checkmark icon button on entry palette seems to fix this.

8.0.0 9.0.0a1 WHEN I TRIM A LINE THE LINE TRIMMED CHANGES TO THE PROPERTIES OF THE
CURRENT CLASS. THIS IS NOT GOOD
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

[See also 70-6057 which reportedly was fixed before 8.0.0; additional problem below info below]

It will also go to the active layer(if it's not already). This has
always been how the trim tool behaves in MiniCAD too. I consider it
a rather serious flaw in the tool because at least 99% of the time I
trim something, I want it to stay in the same class and layer as it
was. It extremely inefficient to have to change all the attributes
back after you trim something - especially if you just trimmed line
from several different classes. :-(

I'm glad I finally see someone else that sees this as a problem. I
thought I was the only one.
8.0.0 9.0.0a1 If a 3D polygon is set to "by class" for the line style, and the class has a dash pattern, then the 3D poly will not be drawn (but will still be selectable). This is causing DXF imports to partially disappear.

8.0.0b11 9.0.0a2 Pasting into a drawing does not always set the units such that the objects fit inside kValidCoordRect - objects extend into gray space. see the text in the bug file for more info.
8.0.0b11 9.0.0a6 The following steps should result in the pasted object being on top of the original: 1. Select an object. 2. Move Page. 3. Paste in Place.

8.0.0b11 9.0.0a10 Progress palette needs to use Apple's pretty progress bar on the Mac.
8.0.0b11 9.0.0a2 The progress palette should be a moveable modal dialog instead of a palette like other progress bars on the Mac.

8.0.0b12 9.0.0a1 Ok, this is weird but repeatable.. this only works with an intelliMouse. Redefine the middle button to be a double click. Open a document and create a new texture. From the resource dialog, hit the middle mouse button to open the new texture. Without pressing any buttons move the mouse over the sliders (Transparency and Shininess) you will see the sliders jump to the position of the mouse without any buttons being pressed or held down. Moving the dialog with restore correct operation. Just double clicking with the left mouse button to edit the texture will not make this happen. I know, weird!
8.0.0b12 9.0.0b12 DXF proxy objects are not imported.
8.0.0b12 9.0.0a3 Drawing with the solid objects tools, automatically turn off the snap to grid.
8.0.0b13 9.0.0a2 The grid display is sporadic on solid rendering. Draw a sphere and solid render it. The grid goes away. Drag the sphere over the grid. As the sphere is being rerendered, the grid displays, but only over the area where the sphere was dragged.

[Cannot duplicate, e-mailed Mark for further info -- ACB]

[Requires a complex object, not specifically a sphere or other solid primitive. -- ACB]
8.0.0b13 9.0.0a14 If the first or last row in a worksheet is a database header, and headers are hidden, using arrow keys to move up or down will not skip that row as it should.

8.0.0b14 9.0.0a17 Base Cabinets--a couple of remaining cosmetic bugs

Corner cabinet, diagonal front- the doors are not drawing properly with the Surface option.

I'd like to see the splash drawn as an additional line across the back (and side if appropriate) of the counter in plan view.

corner base cabinet draws the counter edge too thick. It should match the straight base cabs. [fixed previously]

The 'carousel' in the corner cabinet should be drawn in dashed lines in plan view. [JAG: fixed in B16.]

The 'carousel' in the corner cabinet doesn't need a column in 3D views. (This will never be seen, and simply adds to the polygons needed to render.) [JAG: fixed in B16.]

Adjust the base cabinet defaults to be 24" deep and 36" high (this is standard for kitchen cabinets.) [fixed in B16.]

Currently, if I have a counter overhang, both the counter edge and the cabinet front are drawn as solid lines in plan. If I'm going to draw the cabinet front, it should be a dashhed line. [fixed]
8.0.0b14 9.0.0a15 Under Windows, worksheet palettes disappear when the application is backgrounded. This is correct for the Macintosh but not for Windows.

NOTE: under VW 9, windows works correctly (worksheets do not disappear when app is suspended), but does not work correctly on mac (worksheet is not hidden when app is suspended). [VML]
8.0.0b14 9.0.0a18 The RayMaker rendering mode should not show the grid lines, or should provide a preference for not rendering the grid lines.
8.0.0b14 9.0.0a2 Ctrl-Drag on a 2D object that has thick lines causes trash to be left on the screen.

8.0.0b15 9.0.0b3 Parametric placement in walls doens't always work right. It doens't always place the object where you dropeed it-- outline shows you one place, click and it appears somewhere else. Very easy for me to duplicate.

Does not place parametric correctly when moving from wall to another, always inserts on the origin of the symbol or PIO in the new wall. DWD]
8.0.0b15 9.0.0b4 The trim and offset by distance are not working all the time I have been using the tools with lines and I constantly get errors from the software saying this object can not be trimmed or s a side must be selected to offset. The ease of use of these tools in Minicad 7.03 was a huge selling point from my background experience.
8.0.0b15 9.0.0b7 When converting an object to 3D polygons, textures are not transferred to the newly created polys.
8.0.0b15 9.0.0b13 When the document is set to black and white only, colors are still exported to DXF.
8.0.0b15 9.0.0a14 Worksheet redraw problem when deleting extra columns from a door schedule worksheet.
8.0.0b15 9.0.0b1 The bottom two arcs get drawn with their arcs beyond their bounds
8.0.0b15 9.0.0b8 Imported DXF fonts need to use the extended entity data to decode the name of the font in the style, instead of just showing the font file name. This info should be available in AC2000 files, and some earlier versions. The bold/italic setting for the text style also needs to be read and applied. Also, fonts embedded in mtext need to be put into the font mapping dialog.
8.0.0b15 9.0.0b10 Before we obsolete DoMenuText for good, we need to provide an alternate interface for the WS (worksheet) functionality which is only available from this call.
8.0.0b16 9.0.0a1 Using a Diamond Viper 550 video card in 16-bit mode, causes the tool icons to use slighty off colors.

32-bit mode works fine.
8.0.0b16 9.0.0a2 On Windows, tool tips draw on the data bar and help bar, and object handles draw (and remain) in the rulers.
8.0.0b16 9.0.0b4 The 'Export-Database' brings extra "" (double-quotation) character at top of data files.

1. Create any Record Format
2. Attach Record Format to any symbols
3. Select 'Export-Database' menu command at the 'File' menu.
4. Select 'tab' or 'comma' format.
5. Hit 'OK' button and hit 'Save' button at the file list dialog.
6. Open its data file using any editors, like a 'word pad'

8.0.0b9 9.0.0a1 On Windows, single width tool palettes are difficult to close. The close box looks normal, but the active area is only working on the right half of the close box.

8.0.0b9 9.0.0a1 If creating a polyline using corner points, one can drag to get a bezier. That's fine, but it doesn't change the mode bar, and (sometimes) there's no way to get back to doing corner points for subsequent vertices. There appears to be a mysterious bezier metamode that can be entered.

[This meta mode is as designed. For now it is a wish list item to change it. -SAJ]

Why are they available in the popup?

8.0.1 9.0.0b12 Copy a door or window plug-in object from 9810 Base Plan and paste it into 9810 Elevation. The trim comes out really wide (as if a false wall handle were being passed.) Perform a regen and everything is OK.
8.0.1 9.0.0a8 With the allocated memory set to the "factory default" of 20295k (virtual memory turned off), VectorWorks crashes when trying to use the Workspace editor.

8.0.1 9.0.0b12 Object Info palette edittext bugs:

"I was trying to pin down the bug that changes the font size in the "obj info" pallet for straight stairs

I have discovered instead

1. If you have a field highlighted, change the number and press "enter" it adds a linefeed to the field which causes it to roll up and disappear

Also if you have a field highlighted while changing the Config: or Style: it adds a linefeed to the field which causes it to roll up and disappear Backspacing or deleting the unseen chars has other interesting effects

This same effect does not happen for the window plug-in
--
Cheers,
Dave Best"

And a related bug:

"1. add a complex window plug-in to a wall, change the width of the window in the obj info pallet, the font in the pallet changes to "Bold" and increases in size"
8.0.1 9.0.0a1 Another little bug seems to happen when cap breaks (with offsets != 0) of round walls are set. The lines of the wall sides end where they are supposed to end, but the polylines that define where the cavities and/or the fill pattern is drawn don't end at the same vertex but a little before or behind (so sometimes cavities are drawn outside the wall). I suppose that some recalculation in ResetObject or somewhere else is not done correctly.
8.0.1 9.0.0d1 An object converted to a mesh is put in the none class, not the class of the object converted to a mesh. (For multiple objects converted, we just use the class of the first object.)
8.0.1 9.0.0a1 I recently was shown this by a colleague of mine and think it is a bug.

input.

8.0.1 9.0d1 My customer had 6 classes without names or objects in them

This can not be reproduced in house but does happen

8.0.1 9.0.0a1 Somehow the class list gets entries in it with no name, and these entries cannot be removed.
8.0.1b1 9.0.0a14 There is a redraw problem when moving the worksheet window around the work area. Alternating cells lose their selection fill while scrolling up/down (Scroll Bar). Scrolling left/right seems to work fine.

The areas that disappear maybe related to the floating palettes.

8.0.1b1 9.0.0a4 When editing an object with the "Clip tool" or with the command "Add surface" or "Clip surface", then the edited object looses all links to databases and also all datatags that where assigned by externals.

1. Select the rectangle
2. Open the objectinfo palette and switch to the data view
As you can see is the rectangle linked to the database with the name "Testdatabase".

3. Select the rectangle and the polygon
4. Choose the command "Clip Surface"
5. Select the rectangle
As you can see is the rectangle no longer linked to the database with the name "Testdatabase". If the rectangle would had have a datatag it also would be lost. In my opinion the edited object must keep these informations. I think the rules for keeping database and datataglinks should be the same as for the other attributes like fillpattern, lineweight and so on (if you for example add two surfaces that are linked to different databases, then the new object should be linked to the databases the backmost original object was linked to). For graphical attributes you managed to handle this in an intelligent way. Additionaly you also succeeded to even keep database links and datatags when an object is rotated and this is also creating a new objecttyp (rectangle is converted to a polygon).
8.0.1b1 9.0.0b9 Cutting lines with an ellipse using the command "Clip surface" is not working correctly.

1. Select the ellipse and the lines
2. Choose the command "Clip Surface"
3. Zoom so that you can take a close look at some points where the lines end on the ellipse
As you can see are some of the lines not ending on the edge of the oval.
8.0.1b1 9.0.0b9 Cutting lines with an circle using the command "Clip surface" is not working correctly.

1. Select the circle and the lines

8.0.1b2 9.0.0b10 Menu Item - Clip Surface. The objects in the test file are a spur gear with involuted teeth created with the Spur Gear comand and a hole created with the Keyway command. The spur gear is a polyline consisting of arc, bezier, and corner points while the keyway is a polyline with corner and arc vertices. When trying to do a Clip Surface with the original objects (top row, left) nothing happens. If the gear is changed to all arcs, all beziers, or all corners, Clip Surface works. If the hole is rotated 120-deg, Clip Surface is successful but the clipped surface is incorrect.

8.0.1b3 9.0.0b1 On Windows, if you add lines or paste lines into an existing script while working in the VectorScript Editor from a Command palette, and the additions cause the script to exceed 32k, by all appearances there is no indication that you have exceeded the limit when editing from a Command palette until you close the Editor. Only then does the message appear telling you that you have exceeded the 32k limit and that you cannot edit the file on a Mac. What it does not tell you is that you are about to have your script truncated since there is no option other than to click OK. In the past when editing a script from a command palette, when the 32k was exceded, you could not add any additional lines, thereby letting you know that the limit had been reached.

8.5.0 9.0.0b8 If you have an Arch, DIN, ISO, or SIA dimension that lies outside of the witness lines and you change the dimension to ASME, BSI, or JIS, the dimension text disappears.
8.5.0 9.0.0a13 When the Object Browser is used to insert a "Red" symbol containing a Plug-in Object, the Class info is lost. If the object was assigned a class before, it has the class within the symboldefinition, but after it is placed in the document it reverts to None class.

I think it also fails if you use the Symbol Insert tool directly with a "Red" symbol. However if you do "Edit Symbol", copy the Plug-in Object to clipboard, do "Exit", and then paste it into the drawing...it has correct class.
8.5.0 9.0.0a7 Render/Obj Info palette - Create a texture and use a RenderWorks shader for the texture. Draw a 3D object. In the Object Info palette select/apply the shader to the 3D object. In the Resources palette select and edit the shader. In the LightWorks RayMakerEdit dialog select a different shader. Click the green check mark on the next two dialogs and the OK button on the Set Shader Size dialog. Click the CANCEL button on the Edit Texture dialog. The Object Info palette texture thumbnail will still display the original shader but when the object is rendered it will show the CANCELed shader.
Should the Object Info palette thumbnail be updated or should the canceled texture not been applied?
8.5.0 9.0.0a13 Open a new drawing and set Layer Scale to 1/4". Insert a desk from the AEC objects palette. Place the desk and accept the default settings. Select and copy the desk. Open a new drawing but don't change the layer scale. Paste the desk into the new drawing. You'll receive the "A Plug-in Object parameter value is out-of-range do to inappropriate layer scale. Change the scale and try again." When you click OK Vector Works will still attempt to place the object. If you now change the layer scale appropriate for the desk, then zoom in on the desk it is drawn incorrectly. Changing a value on the Obj Info palette will cause the desk to redraw correctly.

[ This is not a bug with OpenGL renderer in VW. The problem is because the nVidia' RIVA TNTdriver does not support (or implement wrong) a Microsoft implemented OpenGL extension function which allows OpenGL renderer to cut part of back buffer and to then swap it to the front. -Shirley 7/20/99]
8.5.0b1 9.0.0a13 Plug-in Linear and Rectangular Objects fail to insert if their default values for the PLineLength and PBoxWidth parameters are out-of-range due to inappropriate page/layer scale. It fails even though the user may have just dragged (or clicked) to specify a good (in range) length and width while placing object. Problem is VW trys to create the object using defaults and _then_ use the user specified values.
8.5.0b1 9.0.0a14 When a worksheet with a database row has a sub-total row, importing the worksheet into a document with no objects meetings its criteria produces a blank sub-total row (with no row label). The row correctly disappears when the worksheet is redrawn.
8.5.0b1 9.0.0a8 Using the fly over tool while rendered in OpenGL, the data bar disapears.

8.5.0b2 9.0.0b9 The dimension offset parameter for all dimension standards except ASME is a minus value when the dimension is offset to the left of the dimension points and plus when offset to the right. The offsets should be the same for ASME since this parameter can be specified by the VectorScript dimension procedures ,e.g., LinearDim(). Thus, when using this procedure, the dimension will be placed to the right or left of the dimension points based on the dimension standard, but should be placed the same for all standards. Also, when changing from Arch to ASME in the Object Info palette, the dimension flips sides.

[This crash has been fixed in 8.5b3cut2. The bug is caused by OpenGL renderer repeatly generates texture object for the same materialref since AddShader does not check the same materialref and always aks renderer to generate a new shader. So, in the shader map, there is actually only one shader but OpenGL texture objects are a bunch, and only the last one gets deleted in the second rendering frame.

8.5.0b3 9.0.0b1 An arc disappears when clipped with another shape. This did not happen in
MC7. I believe it's a bug. This problem occurs either with the clip
surface tool or the eraser tool when used along its radial lines (usually
invisible). This was extremely useful (in MC7) for converting arcs to
polylines when the workspace is too small to keep the arc's center.

Also, when the arc is clipped with another shape along its arc line, the
remaining arc becomes *two* arcs! This is also a bug.

(I was able to duplicate this on the PC. I created a polygon and then dragged it around the screen. For Rectangles, a ghost image moves around the screen. For any other polygon, there is no bounding box or ghost image of the poygon. This makes it harder to tell where the object is on the screen as well as where it is in relation to other objects. AJC)

8.5.0b4 9.0.0a12 Selection and redrawing of 3D symbols and plugin objects while in perspective projection is hit-and-miss. I have tracked this down to the bounding routines calling MapBox in XGraf3D.cpp instead of calling MapProjectedBox. MapBox does not take the perspective projection into account, so you always get the orthographic bounds which is wrong in perspective projection. I have added a comment and a potential fix to MapBox (namely turn around and call MapProjectedBox instead) but haven't uncommented it because this should be thoroughly investigated first. -DLD 8/5/99

8.5.0b5 9.0.0b12 Really bad cosmetic bug: insert a symbol (which has the convert-to-group option checked) and rotate it...every instance has two sets of selection handles left behind since the XOR happens in a different location the second time.
8.5.0b5 9.0.0a14 When inserting a symbol as a group, there is an option to apply a class to the group. But if there is only one object in the group then the class is not applied because the object is placed directly instead of inside a group. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, depends on what the purpose of the class assignment option is.

8.5.0b6 9.0.0a8 When closing a document window, DisposeRenderinggeometry is called after tdWindow is assigned to 0, which caused the failure of bring window rendering context to be current with the calling thread for explicitly disposing rentained model. This can cause memory leak.

8.5.0b6 9.0.0a14 Use of the Paste Criteria menu command in worksheet results in nothing being entered into the cell.

[JAK - The workaround is to click in cell, type the equal sign "=", then choose "Paste Criteria...", hit OK, click checkmark button to accept formula and it works fine. If you do not first type the "=" it will not work. ]

8.5.0b6 9.0.0b1 Using the Procedure button in the VW command editor fails to retain the location of the cursor at the pasted Procedure location. The procedure text is pasted correctly in the right location, but the cursor is then placed at the top of the file.

[This is a problem when the script is large and you have to find where you were pasting 400 or 500 lines from the top of the file...FGB]
8.5.0b6 9.0.0b5 Using the OBJ INFO palette, if you type in an equivalent dimensional value to the one that already exists in the field, the number that you type is displayed as entered but the units are not added (unless you type them in yourself). Also, the number is not converted to the sheet's units format even after you <Tab> away from the field or hit <Enter>. To get the number to display properly, you have to type in a different value and then retype the value that you want (in any dimensional format) e.g.:

Existing In Field You Type End Result
3'0" 36<Tab> 36
3'0" 36"<Tab> 36"
8.5.0b6 9.0.0a14 Mac only - Change Line thickness on the Attributes palette to 40 / change your drawing view to Top (not Top/Plan) / draw a rectangle / the grid within the rectangle will change to a thicker line thickness
8.5.0b6 9.0.0a1 Using Quick Time 4.0 - Draw a 3D object / give the 3D object a color fill using the Attributes palette / within the Resource palette find a texture you would like to use for the object / Edit the texture by unchecking the Tile Image options (Horz. and Vert.) / apply the now non-repeating texture to the object / when rendered using QD3D the color fill from the attributes palette is not retained

Within the test file the objects on the right labeled "color filled" should have a color fill when rendered.
8.5.0b6 9.0d1 The Open() procedure still returns a warning when default file error handling is suppressed via UseDefaultFileErrorHandling(FALSE).

8.5.0b6 9.0.0b1 Apparently dimensions don't want to flip horizontal along with the rest of
the group in b6.
8.5.0b6 9.0.0b9 Using a symbol inside of a plug-in object:

Placing one of the objects and then making a parameter change in 3D view mode will cause the symbol inside the object to disappear. It will only reappear if you go back into Top/Plan view and make another parameter change.
8.5.0b6 9.0.0b9 Create a new document, set the layer scale to 50:1, create an image texture, set the feature size to 10', save and close the file, open a new file (1:1 scale), import 50:1 file's texture, verify feature size is 10'.
8.5.0b6 9.0.0a14 Red symbols inserted from the object browser don't regenerate when inserted directly into walls. This means that a window doesn't immediately pick up wall line weights, etc., although it will upon first regen in the wall. Since it's unlikely that a window, for instance, wouldn't be regen'ed in the course of an installation, this is not a major problem, but little errors could creep in and we want to avoid this.
8.5.0b7 9.0.0b12 it seems that the periodic donglecheck via calling Plug-In support is not
as safe as it could be. I found two methods to cheat:

* Remove plug-in support (and dongle) after launching. VW remains in full
mode even after the (failed) periodic call to Plug-In support

* Replace Plug-In support by a dummy, old or US version of Plug-In
support. I didn't try that, but is assured that VW realizes this cheat?

8.5.0b7 9.0d1 Add Solids fails when one of the objects is a sweep containing a locus.

[Not all sweeps, but a number of them. I've figured out the problem(s), one of which is due to the sweep geometry generation having changed so certain points in the geometry are no longer identical, and another is a wraparound problem (I add one instead of wrapping back to zero) with certain sweeps.) 8.5.0b7 9.0.0FC1 There is a problem with offsetting a symbol created using CreateCustomObject with a (0,0) insertion point...it seems you are not allowed to move3dobj on the handle returned by CreateCustomObj. Also, the problems seem restricted to the x and y coords as a move in the z coord results in no errors.
8.5.0b8 9.0d1 Draw a 3D object / Render using LightWorks / Export to a Metafile / once the file has been exported and control returned back to VWs, the rulers will contain sporadic lines along with a overall function slow down of VWs

Oddly enough this happens more often when the exported file name contains a number?????

8.5.0b8 9.0.0a1 Roofs cannot be created with double miter ends when just giving the horizontal dim. which is set as the default value to enter. If you give a vertical value then it will calculate and work properly.
8.5.0b8 9.0d1 Multiple extrudes used in solids with non-planar faces are not handled properly, resulting in cracks in the object if those faces have holes in the final solid.
8.5.0b8 9.0d1 Using Subtract Solids on the two parts in the test file causes VectorWorks to crash.

8.5.0b8 9.0d1 Can't give a curved wall a negative height value in the OI palette. (This is very useful for using walls as grade beams or retaining walls, etc.) I can do this with a straight wall.
8.5.0b8 9.0.0a15 If you open a file that's loaded in the object browser and modify it, the object browser will give you a -37 'bad file name' error the next time you try and use it. You must then unload and reload the file (or stop and restart your VW session.)

8.5.0b8 9.0.0b11 On Windows 98, the Script Editor of the VectorScript Plug-in Editor allows you to open a file larger than the editor can handle. The window is blank and if you hit the OK button the contents of the file are erased.
8.5.0b8 9.0.0a17 The call AddCavity(). Is not working correctly on Windows machines. If you were to call AddCavity(TRUE,1",2",0); on a Mac it would put in a cavity using the default hatch. But, on windows, it creates the cavity but doesn't put in the default hatch, although looking at the cavity via the cavities button on the Object Info palette will say a hatch is assigned to it.
8.5.0b8 9.0.0b1 The VectorScript function Num2StrF is broken. It returns an incorrect value for any number >= 215 or <= -215.
8.5.0b8 9.0.0a1 I created a rectangle and set the fill and pen patterns to a fore/back pattern. I changed the pen fore and back colors, and the fill pattern on the attribute palette took on the color of the pen pattern. So the patterns for fill and pen always look the same on the attribute palette.
8.5.0b8 9.0.0b11 Inserting base cabinets near wall openings ( right sides of Doors,Windows,etc...) causes the wall lines to draw through the openings in Top Plan View.

8.5.0b8 9.0.0a14 If I set the fill color of a worksheet on the drawing to something other than white(i.e. Green) the dashed row boundary lines keep their black white dash style rather than being black and green.
8.5.0b8 9.0.0a15 If you add a file to the Object Browser palette, open that file in VectorWorks, then close the file, two problems happen:

1 - The file is removed from the Object Browser.
2 - Even though the file is removed, the palette is not updated, so it looks like symbols from the file are still available, but they cannot be placed.
8.5.0b8 9.0.0a14 Worksheets with a very wide column do not give a horizontal scroll bar to allow you to see the whole column.
8.5.0b8 9.0d1 An easy one: There is an error dialog in the Create Roof from... of the Building Elements section that reads "Could not create roof, from these walls." - which seems grammatically incorrect. Methinks the comma should be deleted.
8.5.0d 9.0.0a2 If you modify an attribute and then use a keyboard shortcut (such as ctrl-C to copy), the shortcut key gets ignored; presumably it has to do with the attribute palette having focus. This works fine on Macs.
8.5.1 9.0.0b1 When work sheet in resource palette is selected, 'On Drawing' check box does not unchek when Undo.
Please follow this sequence.
1. Select any worksheet.
2. Check the 'On Drawing' chek box in resource palette.
3. Execute Undo command.
4. 'On Drawing' check
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 The Column will be missing when import VectorScript format.
8.5.1 9.0d1 Edit Class dialog may cause Plug-in Objects to temporarily change their attributes until the next time they are Reset. After the Reset the objects revert to their old attributes and appearance.

Follow these steps to duplicate:
1) Place a "Table and Chairs" Plug-in Object
2) Edit Class dialog
3) Change fill color of the "None" class to Blue.
4) Turn on the "Use at Creation" checkbox.
5) OK
6) Now you get an alert "Do you want to set all the objects of this class ...", hit "Yes" button.
7) Now you will notice that all the "Table and Chairs" objects have been colored blue. VectorWorks has searched entire drawing, descending into Plug-in Object sublists, and set all objects with "None" class to now "use class attributes".
8) Select one and change a parameter on the object info palette to cause it to Reset.
9) Now you will notice that the selected object reverts to orignal color (not blue).

[JAK - Suggested fix: Class code should not descend into Plug-in Object sublists when it traverses list. In general any changes made to a Plug-in Object sublist will be lost the next time it is Reset. If scripter wants the objects on the subist to always "use class attributes" then the scripter must do it in the script. ]

[JAK - this is not a new bug with 8.5.1, it has been around a while. ]
8.5.1 9.0.0a18 The texture bitmaps generated for LightWorks shaders always look bad - highly pixelated with more reflectivity than expected.
8.5.1 9.0.0b4 The plug-in command Create Detail Bubbles contains a 50 by 500 array. The command will run any number of times without a problem. However, if you open and close the Plug-in Editor, the script will produce the error "Not enough memory to compile. Increase partition size!" This only happens on the Mac with the factory setting of 20124 k of memory allocated to VectorWorks.

[In the 8.5.1 shipping version, the array is 100 by 882. This was reduced to 50 by 100 because the shipping version would not run at all with the factory setting of 20124 k.]
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 The "rubber band" line for the 2d rotate tool picks up the line weight of the selected object.
8.5.1 9.0.0a18 Ghosting for tools like 2d rotate change line weight as you rotate thick line weight objects. The ghost disappears as you approach 90 deg roation.
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 The variable "mouse" in TCustomWidget::HandleClick() in file UDlgView.cpp was not being initialized.

A very quick click by user would cause StillDown() to return false, and when this happened the uninitialized value would be passed to TCustomWidget::MouseUp(), causing at least some widgets (e.g., THorizontalSeparator and TVerticalSeparator) to behave oddly.

The problem appears to be in Mac-only code.
8.5.1 9.0.0b11 If you change a slab's parameter in the object info palette while the slab is rendered in any mode other than wireframe, the rendering won't change. QuickDraw3D clearly re-renders it though.
8.5.1 9.0.0b6 The balloon help for Duplicate Symbol in Wall Tool is not complete.

8.5.1 9.0.0a15 Subject: Door PIO

When using the simple door PIO and the "set reference point" option is
selected the "use wall depth" option for the jamb depth does not have any
effect and the jamb is drawn to the dim in the jamb depth field.

8.5.1 9.0.0b12 Interface glitch. In the Move Symbol dialogue box, the hierarchical
popup menu is cut off on the left side.
8.5.1 9.0.0b1 Field tabbing. When creating a polygon, I often use the tabbing feature
to enter the values. The problem is that now once you've entered , say, a
value for X, once, the next segments show that value and do not reset and
float as they did in MiniCAD. Why is this?

Also, occasionally, you cannot select or tab into the X field in the Object Info Palette. The only way to do so is to close and them reopen the palette.
8.5.1 9.0.0b11 In VS, it is common to save a temporary view, change the view,
execute the script, revert the view then delete the saved view.
Choosing Undo after such a script opens the Saved Sheets
palette, even if it was not open to begin with.
8.5.1 9.0.0b11 A common VS technique to tag selected objects
that need to be deselected, is to attach a temporary record to them,
then delete it on completion. Choosing undo after executing such a
script frequently sees the temporary records get recreated, even
though they didn't exist before the script was run.
8.5.1 9.0.0b5 When creating layer with very large scales the snap gird can change from 0.000001 to 0.0128 (instead of 0.0001).
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 A bitmap or pict is clipped to the screen rect when exporting an image file. To reproduce this, you can choose a large page size and stretch the image to fill the page, then export. Only the piece in the middle will come out.
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 VectorScript compiler issues warning messages if a Tab character follows a numeric literal (e.g., variable-11[tab]).
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 Text does not take on the fill pattern attribute of the active class (use at creation is ON) when the text is created.
8.5.1 9.0.0a7 The render bitmap tool offsets the image when the screen resolution setting is not 1:1
8.5.1 9.0.0b12 Locked plug-ins can be changed in the editing window, but the changes are _not_ saved to disk and no warning is given to the user.
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 The file, when rendered with Final Shaded Solid or RayMaker overwrites memory and crashes. The debug version of Braque says that in the routine SetPolylineCorner, called from the vertical miter code, gets a polyline with 0 vertices, and then calls ReduceHandleSizeCk but with a larger handle size, not smaller. They both assert but continue working on the object and overwrite memory, which eventually causes a hard freeze of the machine.
8.5.1 9.0.0a14 There is a redraw problem associated with database headers in row 1 of a worksheet. A database header row created in row 1 of a worksheet cannot be unhidden once the database headers option is turned off. If you background the app and bring it back to front(forcing a redraw) this will bring it back.

Database headers in other rows do not exhibit this problem.
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 If a script being compiled direct from a file (as being double-clicked in the Resources palette) contained exactly 512 characters or an even multiple of 512 characters, an extra junk character was being generated at the end of the script by the compiler, causing a fatal compile error.
8.5.1 9.0.0b1 In the Document preferences, custom dimensions dialog, one has to click several times in the edit boxes for circular dimensions before the cursor will appear in those boxes.
8.5.1 9.0.0b3 Full screen cursor gets left behind on the screen all the time. For example, when doing command-M for move.
8.5.1 9.0.0a7 The travUnlocked option in ForEachObjectInLayer works incorrectly, it traverses locked objects only.
8.5.1 9.0.0b1 A crash occurs when a user checks a record format (in the data pane), switches focus to another app, then unchecks a record format
8.5.1 9.0.0b10 Draw a bunch of VW Architect stuff in a drawing (I had 1/16" layer scale, bezier roads, rotated title blocks, toilet stalls, etc.) Zoom way in and try to scroll. VW freezes, i'm guessing due to fine polygonalization of objects which don't actually overlap the screen and therefore shouldn't be drawn, but which may be inside a plugin whose bounding box overlaps the screen. Another time i noticed slower scrolls the farther i was zoomed in. May need a certain zoom threshold before it freezes.
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 The chamfer tool understands the line weight of the lines being chamfered. The fillet tool does not. I suggest the fillet tool function similar to the chamfer tool. Now, I always have to set the line weight of the resultant arc. This seems unnecessary.
Best,
Donald
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 "Convert to Lines" leaks memory if performed on a solid primitive or CSG solid.
8.5.1 9.0.0a16 shrinking a column width to zero, the image of the spreadsheet placed on the drawing show the content of the hidden column that overlap the nearby column.
8.5.1 9.0.0a14 Symbol() insertion call in Vectorscript will insert a "Red" symbol (plug-in object) into a document as a standard "Black" symbol. Both will be type "15" (placed symbol) . Whereas when a Red symbol is placed manually in a document, it will return type 86 (plug-in object), as it should.
8.5.1 9.0.0a9 Close all documents.

8.5.1 9.0.0a15 Open a disk doc in the object browser, then try and open it in the Resource palette. The List box does not update proplerly in the resource palette.

8.5.1 9.0.0a1 There is a nomenclature conflict between the function Record() and the new keyword RECORD for VW9.
8.5.1 9.0.0b12 Some objects disappear when importing DXF/DWG if the file has unexpected or incorrectly written sequences of block attributes or polyline vertices.

8.5.1 9.0.0a1 If a hatch is deleted, and it was the last hatch selected through the attribute palette, the drawing may get into a state where you cannot select a hatch through the attribute palette.
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 Most text items in the class list on the class dialog do not show up when in black background.
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 I just installed 8.5.2b9 and did a restart.

The highlighting feature in the color pallette which reflects the currently chosen color or reflects the color of the
currently selected object does not work. It didn't in 8.5.1 and it doesn't in 8.5.2b9.

I 'threw out' the VW preferences file and let VW create a new one but to no avail.
------------
The problem occurs with the color plalette displayed in conjunction with the Attributes palette. I am attaching a couple of screen shots to illustrate the phenomena.

I am using a 19" RasterOps Mc7515 monitor. The settings are:1152x870, 75Hz AND Thousands of Colors.

The problem first occurred on my system with the 8.5.1 CD update that I received from Graphsoft. At that time I was on a Mac7300/200 using MacOS9.0. I have recently upgraded to a G4/400 with OS9.0.2. Same behavior on both machines. I called once tech directly once regarding this problem. I was instructed to toss out VW preferences and restart VW fresh so it could build a new preference file. That worked for just a few minutes of use in a new or old file. I was hoping the new 8.5.2b9 update would remedy the situation but it is no different. I can't believe I am the only person experiencing this. Perhaps many newer users don't miss it since they may not ever have been aware such a 'previous color highlighting scheme' ever existed.

8.5.1 9.0.0a9 In some countries such as Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands we use decimal comma instead of decimal point when writing decimal values. On a Swedish keyboard for example we have a comma instead of a point in the numerical keyboard, so it can be pretty annoying having to look elsewhere for the right key.

I have noted that VW *usually* accepts both on the Mac version. The Windows version, however, could really do with a cleanup. While doing training I have all too often seen confused students that can not for the world understand why some entries don't work.

I know I am being annoying for sending such general comments, but I can't recall exactly where it happened. I has happened two or three times on Windows in the last couple of weeks (during training as well as a support question). My suggestion would be to go through as much as possible of the program with the computer set to German, Dutch or Swedish keyboards. To
test it, just use the decimal point in the numeric keyboard, which will give you decimal comma. Unfortunately, we are pretty much Mac people here and only (reluctantly) use Wintels if we absolutely have to, so we can't provide much volume testing in this respect.

Over the years (I have been around since 1987) I have however found that new features seem to have this problem. The Wall Framer, for example, had this problem when it was introduced.

8.5.1 9.0.0a17 in a black background the Object Info palette does not show the highlight box around the object selected.
8.5.1 9.0.0a16 1) Create 2 extruded objects in top plan
2) Add the 2 solids
3) Switch views to front
4) Ungroup the solids
5) The handles and selections of the objects are failing to attatch themselves properly.
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 The second parameter of GetView() is returning a value with a slight inaccuracy, one which is sufficient to cause relational expressions to fail.

I'm not entirely sure whether the root of the problem is with GetView, or is with SetView().

This script will illustrate the problem:

PROCEDURE Test;
VAR
vax,vay,vaz,vcx,vcy,vcz:REAL;
BEGIN
SetView(45,45,-90,2,4,8);
GetView(vax,vay,vaz,vcx,vcy,vcz);
Message(vax:2:15,' ',vay:2:15,' ',vaz:2:15);
END;
Run(Test);
8.5.1 9.0.0a1 GetZoom and SetZoom use REAL values as parameters. This causes rounding problems when trying to compare zoom values, since the value loses accuracy when converted internally. This inaccuracy is passed back when returning values via GetZoom. The rounding is particularly bad since the values fall on both sides of the zoom factor.

The use of REALs is also unnecessary, since as far as I can determine, only the integral part of the value is used.

These functions should have INTEGER or LONGINT parameters, not REALs.
8.5.1 9.0.0a9 Performing a handle-based 3D rotation or move on a 3D symbol placed via the same script will crash VectorWorks. See test file.

Offending procedures: Set3DRot(), Move3DObj
8.5.1 9.0.0b10 DXF export of 3D polys results in all of the open polys being closed.

8.5.1 9.0.0a12 A newly created custom dimension standard always defaults to architectural values; if one wishes to create an ASME based standard, for example, ALL the values have to be entered.

The defaults of a new custom dim standard should be able to be set to one of the predefined standards, or take on the attributes of the most recently active standard.
8.5.1 9.0.0a17 I just did this:

- noted that arrows were applied to the door arc
Also happens with stairs.
8.5.1 9.0.0a4 when zooming out after opening this file you will get a " Color 1bit RGB error called" message. Then the program will crash with a Runtime C++ error.
8.5.1 9.0.0a6 The Move Button on the Macintosch Resources pallette does not work at all. Page 10-30 and 10-31 explain proper use but only Windows is used. Plese test this situation I was able to reproduce the situation and would be happy to do anything to help with this situation to be resolved.

8.5.1b1 9.0.0a1 When using the render bitmap tool, there is a reported limit of about 5x8 inches at 300dpi. The user has 200+mb allocated to VW. How big can you go with this tool? Is there an internal limit?
8.5.2 9.0.0a1 If you change the pen color of an text object through the eyedropper tool, the attribute palette shows that the text has the new color, but the text is not drawn with the new color.

8.5.2 9.0.0b3 Subject: dashed hidden line render bug

Dashed hidden line rendering does not seem to work properly with 'class attributes'

Also from Marc Pitman
I had similar difficulty on a PC using VW 8.5.2 with Renderworks. After experimenting with an extruded cube I found the following to occur. If the line thickness attribute for the cube is set to class thickness than the hidden lines will render invisible. If set to a specified thickness I get dashed lines. I tried this with a wall and found the same thing to happen.

8.5.2 9.0.0a16 Subject: Structrual Shapes don't work

Pull-downs for the sizes on structural shape tools still do not work  except for the I (S shape) beams after installing the VA 1.0.1 update for windows.  I reported this problem in the VA forum on 02-07 and have sent email to tech support.  What is the problem?

Pull-downs for the sizes on the Bolt and Nut "inch tool doesn't work now either (the bolt and nut " metric does work). I believe it worked before installing the update.
8.5.2 9.0.0a1 Tool Tips on the Mode Bar

3 weeks ago I have sent a mail to you an Sean describing a problem with the tooltips and modebar icons (Win only). In the meantime we have detected that this seems to be some kind of an initialization problem. VW only shows tooltips for as many modebar icons as where visible when you last changed the document window. In other words if 2 modebar icons are visible and you change the document window (for example expand the infobar to 2 lines or resize the window), then the tooltips for the first two modebar icons for all tools will be shown. If you then select a tool that has for example five modebar icons all modes after the first 2 (3rd, 4th and so on) will not show tooltips until you again change the document window. Hope that helps to track down the problem.

8.5.2 9.0.0a4 when creating more than 254 layers it is not possible to select the beginning layers from the layer drop down menu.

As a suggestion if the limit is 254 perhaps there be a limit that when reached will not allow you to create new layers.

8.5.2 9.0.0b8 I have a drawing with a certain group in it, in that block I do have some dimensions PROBLEM: When I flip this group (X or Y) the dimenions are flipped also internally but not visible, they appear not to have flipped at all, but on entering the group or ungrouping it, when I select one of the dimensions in that group the selection handles appear on the place they should be after that flip command. When I change one of the attributes of that particular dimension it reappears on the correct coordinates (where the selection handles were)

8.5.2 9.0.0b8 1. Fipping/mirroring dimensions (or multiple selection including

the situation. Witness lines are out to lunch, with selection points still
nested in the original place but completely unrelated to the new position,
which is completely out of whack. More clean up work, more time lost...

8.5.2 9.0.0b12 RenderWorks: The Mapping button is eroniously on the object info palette when multiple walls are selected. This feature confuses the user with the belief that multiple walls can be mapped simultaneously and appears broken when used. This should only be on the palette when a single object is selected. This does not occur with multiple selections of other 3D objects, just walls.
8.5.2 9.0.0a17 If the color of Pen Foreground is set any colors except for black using Layer Colors and Layer Options is Gray Others, some colored objects in the layer including more than 2 text boxes become gray when the layer is non-active.
I think, the colored objects must be shown as light color in this case at VectorWorks.

Please follow this sequence.
1. Make a new file.
"Use Layer Colors" check box is on in "Document Preferences" dialog.
Set the color of "Pen Foreground" of 'Layer-1' blue in "Layers Setup" dialog.
Make the 'Layer-2'.
2. 'Layer Options' is 'Gray Others'.
3. Make 2 text boxs in Layer-1, and draw a slant line in Layer-1.
4. After changing Layer-2 to active layer, the color of the slant line will be gray.

8.5.2 9.0.0a18 I created a new workspace choose the name "FRED" and went to the tools tab.
I then opened sample pallette and moved 2D selection tool and the pan tool to the left hand column and then proceeded to move sample pallete to the left. The workspace editor closed, I could move the mouse, could not select anything, performed CTRL-ALT delete saw the name Vectorworks and nothing more had to end task and loose my work, also tested in a newq document with same results.
8.5.2 9.0.0b4 Create a file and save to a folder with a space in the name
Create a shortcut on desktop
With VW closed, double click on shortcut

VectorWorks will not open the file or a shortcut of that file when the file is saved in a folder/directory with a space. If VectorWorks is open a "-43 File not found' error is displayed. This only occurs when the file is saved in a folder with a space in the name. The original file acts the same as the shortcut. If you drag the file onto the VW icon or use the "File, Open" menu, it will work properly. This does not occur in Win 2000.

Workaround: Regedit, Classes Root, .mcd (determine the type of .doc it is), x.Document, Shell, Open, Command. Edit the command line to include quotes around %1 and this will solve the problem.

8.5.2 9.0.0b4 Editable text fields in custom dialogs do not support CHAR arrays in VW9 for strings > 255. Worse, the editable field will accept a cut and paste of a string larger than 255; the value is truncated when stored, unbeknownst to the user.

Support for CHAR arrays needs to be implemented for this control; it will be perceived as a bug by developers and users.
8.5.2 9.0.0b1 Procedure Get3DInfo does not work on symbol definitions, even if they only contain 3-d geometry.

8.5.2 9.0.0b4 Difficult to reshape objects with control points as the cursor does not change until MouseDown. Sometimes you have to "pick" at it a couple of times.

Elaboration: If I'm reshaping a 'standard' object, my cursor changes to a reshape cursor (diagonal arrow, say) if I'm pointing at or near a reshape point. This should happen with PIO control points also [RFA 11/14/2000]

Clarification: when I point my cursor at a PIO control point handle, IT DOESN'T CHANGE TO INDICATE THAT I CAN RESHAPE THE HANDLE. This is confusing and makes it hard to 'pick' the point to reshape. It ought to change to give visual feedback so I know my reshape-pick will work.
8.5.2 9.0.0b2 Draw many line cossing other lines ( 10 horizontal lines and 10 vertical lines) some time the trim tool does not work as the user expect, it's like some intersection point are missed. Same problems with other objects.[ Abdel 11/7/00].
8.5.2 9.0.0b2 Draw a circle(rectagle, ellipse), and a line crossing this object, trim the segments outside the object, one of these two segment does not trim.

8.5.2 9.0.0b2 Trim on the locations specified in the drawing, in each case we obtain a none expexted object.
8.5.2 9.0.0b4 Columns should take on the starting-Z references of the layer (Z and delta-Z) rather than the default settings of slabs, which are often negative.

Try this:
-create a document with two layers, layer-1 and layer-2; Set layer-2 to Z of 0 and delta-z of 12'.
-draw a floor slab in layer-1. Set it to begin at -6" and be 6" thick.
-Go to layer-2 , draw a shape, and use the Column command. Draw a column. With the column selected, look at the OI palette. You will see that the column is 12' tall, per the layer, but starts at -6".

8.5.2 9.0.0b11 I thought it was illegal for a layer link of layer A to be on layer A? You can copy and paste them. These (sometimes) will fail to invalidate when the layer is modified and won't change until something else invalidates the area.

8.5.2 9.0.0b8 I've had problems with window and door objects in walls when converting to lines. I first thought it was me but it keeps comming up. Basically the converted elevations have parts of the window/door lines missing or broken. I have attached the latest file in which this has happened. Take a look at the elevations-1 sheet which has the linked layers off to one side and the converted elevations. Look at the 'Side Elevation (south)' - the tall windows have not converted properly and the door has lost its frame. The problem existed with some of the other windows aswell but I had started to put them right before sending the file to you.

8.5.2b2 9.0.0b7 We found a very strange bug when printing on laserwriters (it doesn't
show on inktjet printers or plotters).

Draw a rectangle, convert it to a polygon and make the bottom side
invisible with the Edit Polygon tool. Print this on a LaserWriter and you
will see that the left side is also invisible on the print. We did the
test on old G3's, a 8200 and a 8500 PowerMac (OS 8.5), printed to a
LaserWriter 16/600 and a LaserWriter 8500, always with the same result.
It only happens when you convert the rectangle with the command Convert
to polygons. When you clip a part of the rectangle first, the rectangle
is also converted to a polygon. When you make the bottom side invisible
then, the print is fine.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a6 When creating a floor object the Create Floor criteria box will not allow you to enter a negative extrusion number which is OK ! but if you then goto the Object Info Palette you can then change the floor extrusion value to a negative # and the floor will reflect that change until you close and reopen the VW Doc. upon reopening it will ignor the negative value altering the extrusion direction from how it was last saved.

8.5.2b3 9.0.0a15 If you use the "Set Reference Point" insertion mode for the "Simple Door 2" VS Plug-in Object and insert it into a wall, then it will not reset itself using the Wall's width. The regular insertion mode works fine, and the object changes iteself to match the wall width.

To test it you should turn on the "Use Wall Depth" checkbox parameter in the preferences dialog for the object. Then select the tool and click the second mode bar button, click on the endpoint of the wall and drag along a certain distance and release (or click again). Look at the door's jamb depth to see if it matches the wall's depth.

8.5.2b3 9.0.0a8 Another kind of bug with the clip surface.
The attached file contains 2 surfaces.

Try to clip both surfaces, and look at the bottom right arc-corner: the arc
is inverted...

8.5.2b3 9.0.0a5 If you are currently in a drawing that has a script palette open, and you open another drawing that has a script palette open, the script palette of the first drawing remains visible.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a1 Depending on how you select classes in the dialogwindow "Classes" it is not
possible to make several classes at once invisible, grey or visible. Tested
with 8.5.2b3 on Windows NT 4.0 with servicepack 4. No problem on Mac.

1. Choose the command "Classes".
2. Click onto the class "Test 1" and keep the mousebutton pressed.
3. Drag the cursor down to the class "Test 8".

Now all classes with the name "Test" are selected in the list.

4. Click into the column "Invisible" in the line "Test 4"

As you can see is only the class "Test 4" turned invisible and not all the
testclasses. If you would have selected the classes "Test 1" to "Test 8" by
first clicking onto class "Test 1", then release the mouse, move the cursor
to class "Test 8" and then click onto this class with the shiftkey pressed
(selects all classes from 1 to 8) and then click into the column
"Invisible", then all classes are turned invisible. Or in other words then
VectorWorks behaves as expected.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a10 Create a new text block.
Enter some text
Change to the selection tool
Click on the document
Change back to the text tool
Activate the text block and select all the text
Increase the size to 144
Hit Undo (ctrl - z)

The text will remain large but the bounding box will shrink back to the original size. the text is immortal.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a1 If you edit an object with the trim tool, the resulting object is assigned to the currently active class. This is different then with all other tools (Clip, Fillet...) or commands (Clip Surface, Convert to Polygon...)

The following test was done with VW8.5.2b3 on a Mac running system 8.5.1 (same problem on Windows).

1. Select the line.
2. Select the trim tool and click on that part of the rectangle that is on the right side of the line.

As you can see is resulting polygon now filled red. This happens because the polygon is assigned to the activ class (Test) and this class has red as fill foreground color. In my opinion the resulting object should stay in the same class as it was before the modification (in this case the class None). This is how all other editing functions I tested behave. If the rectangle would be linked to a database, even this link is kept for the resulting object.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a8 Draw a sphere

Delete it
Do Ctr Z to undo the delete action --> Does not work

Notice: From the menu Undo is Ok.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0FC2 Some elliptical arcs imported from DXF as 3D polygons still have a radius line at one end of the poly.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0b10 Freehand polys export as closed objects even if they are open in VW.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a9 DXF "solids"and "traces" with duplicate points sometimes import as empty triangles instead of as filled triangles.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a9 Large monochrome picts (like 6mb+) draw at a lower resolution onscreen than the source image. It's particularly noticable when you zoom in. Mac does not exhibit the same problem.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a1 Another one of those, "Why would anyone do that?" bugs.

Start to draw a line, and press the F2 button. A "Tablet driver not found" message is displayed. The warning message will continue to display after clicking the OK button. I could not close the dialog and had to Ctrl-Alt-Del to close Vector Works.

When I was drawing the line I could not remember if it was F2 or #2 that is used to zoom out while drawing. Well, I obviously pressed F2.

8.5.2b3 9.0.0a1 Close all open Vector Works documents. Press the 0 key (Top/Plan) on the number pad.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a14 Hallo bug report/ list,

I ran into a serious bug (?) with worksheets:

I created a worksheet to calculate floorareas in a drawing . I then duplicated this worksheet 8 times and renamed them to be used for the different floor plans.

It now appears that the sheets are still 'linked' in some way: when recalculating a sheet other sheets are recalculated as well and wrong numbers are entered in the database rows.

While the total sum in each worksheet remains correct all subrows of the database display the wrong values.

Although I don't see the exact logic of it yet it is perfectly
reproducable.

Good enough I discovered this before sending anything to our client. I still have time to redo my work in Clarisworks.

Any suggestions?

8.5.2b3 9.0.0a5 In the Vector Works Preferences on the Display tab click the Only In Wireframe option under Display Light Objects. Draw any object and add
any light source. Now either group the two items or make them into a symbol. Place the symbol if needed and render the drawing using any render mode. While the drawing is rendered, edit the symbol or group. The light source will not be visible for editing. Pressing the 0 (Top/Plan) key at this point will display the light source.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a1 Editing a Roof Face in the OI Palette, the Angle is being mis-reported.

For example, type in "19" and hit [enter] and it gets changed to "18". The actual object rotates to a 19 degree pitch, which can be verified in the Right View with a test line. But the OI Palette shows 18 degrees.

Now enter "19.001". The OI Palette changes this to "19", and the object draws correctly at 19 degrees (+/- .001").

But if you enter "19.0001", the OI Palette changes this to "18" (while still drawing the object correctly at 19 degrees).
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a7 Auto scroll doesn't work when using dual monitors when the drawing area spans both monitors. Auto scroll will start once you've reached the edge of the first monitor and not the edge of the drawing area.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a1 Holding down the Windows button on the keyboard will cause Vector Works to zoom in like mad. Undocumented feature?
8.5.2b3 9.0.0b7 When I use show/hide edge mode in reshape polygon mode, sometimes the wrong edge will be hidden when printed.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a17 I cannot intersect the two solid objects within the test file. One object is a sweep and the other is an extruded. The swept object was created from half an oval (looks like M&M candy). To create the extruded object I clipped a rounded rectangle in half then added an oval to the surface.
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a14 While using dual monitors, place your palettes on the secondary monitor and the main Vector Works application on the primary monitor. When tool items on the palettes are double-clicked, the sub-dialogs appear on the primary monitor not the secondary monitor.

Other examples that also cause items to be displayed on the primary monitor:
-Accessing the pen and fill color on the Attributes palette
-Selecting New, on the Resources palette
-Edit Mapping on the Texture tab of the Obj Info palette
-Texture drop-down also on the Obj Info palette
8.5.2b3 9.0.0a1 I noticed that when I try to ungroup a custom object I get the warning that ungrouping 'high level objects' is undoable; however this seems to be untrue:

when I try command-z the ungroup command is undone!

8.5.2b3 9.0.0a2 Change display Preferences to Black Background. Using the 3D selection tool to move an object (2D or 3D), causes the background to turn white. Already drawn objects become temporary invisible while moving the current object.

8.5.2b7 9.0.0b11 Add Surface bug. Select all seven 2D objects and apply the Add Surface command. I'm basically trying to create a rounded rectangle. Often one of the smaller rectangles on the left or right will not be included into the surface.

I could not use our Rounded Rectangle tool because when it was extruded and rendered the rounded edges were not smooth enough for my drawing.
8.5.2b7 9.0.0a9 Printing to Adobe acrobat 4.0 PDFWriter for the Mac places rotated and mirrored text in the wrong place on the page.

8.5.1 and prior worked with non-styled text but would nevertheless place styles in the wrong place.
8.5.2b7 9.0.0b11 Add surface. The order/stacking order in which objects are drawn affect how well the Add Surface command works. See test file for several examples. I have a feeling its the 2D poly causing the problem.
8.5.2b7 9.0.0b12 Add Surface bug. Draw a circle. Starting at the circle's center point draw a rectangle. With no fill, draw another rectangle enclosing both objects. Make the outside rectangle with no fill either Locked or a Guide. Select all three objects and apply the Add Surface command. All the surfaces will be added to the larger, no fill, locked, rectangle.

Note: If the circle is brought to the front, before the surfaces are added, everthing works fine.
8.5.2b7 9.0.0a1 Change Layer Scale to 1/4" = 1' . Open the Layers Setup dialog from the DataBar. Highlight and change the layer name. Go directly to the delta Z field, highlight the current setting of 0" and enter 8' followed by clicking the OK button. Open the Layers Setup dialog again and the 8' was not accepted. Even if you click in the Z field above the delta Z field prior to clicking the OK button, the number is not accepted.

Appears to be Windows only.
8.5.2b7 9.0.0a4 Importing image files used to allow files of any depth to be imported as 1 bit deep bitmaps. In VW 8 we "improved" the code to import them at their correct color depth, but some customers who previously relied on this functionality are unhappy. Specifically, you can only apply colors to bitmaps which are 1 bit deep.
8.5.2b7 9.0.0a10 Scaling when printing does not work well on Windows.

Bitmaps get clipped incorrectly when scale > 100%. See print test file. Seems to predominately affect opaque bitmaps.

"command =" (align objects)
works correctly EXCEPT THAT IT ALWAYS LEAVES CURSOR LINES stuck into the
drawing.
Only a forced redraw or a nudge will make them go away. the nudge is a major
improvement. Previously
nudge also left the very unwanted lines. they now seem to appear only when
"align" is used. Of course I use it all day long, so this is still a serious
annoyance.

I can duplicate this all day long, so please fix this very long-standing bug.

8.5.2b9 9.0.0a5 Subject: Lights in PIO's

8.5.2b9 9.0.0b7 Subject: Rotating Loci Crash

Rotating 3D loci will crash VW. Try this if you don't believe me...

>Warning: ROTATEDOBJECT GH1 - Handle variable is NIL.

This highlights a problem with PIO's and that is with default values. With objects such as these generic rectangles and ovals, they can be used at any scale (unlike say a door or window PIO that is almost certainly not going to be used at 1:1). If you use 0 for the default size values with a rectangular PIO, it is fine unless someone double
clicks the tool then clicks OK, whereby a zero sized object is
created (hence the above errors). If you call up a nominal size, it can still be too large and produce the other common error message from PIO's, that the scale or size needs to be adjusted.

8.5.2b9 9.0.0a14 I have a "blue" symbol made by some other hybryd symbols; the insert option are "convert to group".

If I drag the "blue" object when in top plan view, the symbol is
converted to group. If the view is not plan (i.e. isometric) it is not converted to group, but it stay symbol.
It is a bug (I belive yes...).

8.5.2b9 9.0.0a1 I have enclosed a bug that I already mentioned before and is not fixed in
b9.

I concerns volume calculations in spreadsheet that are way wrong...
The volume function return wrong numbers for extrusions, sweeps, meshes.
The attached file contains a set of cases where these calculations are
wrong.

I'm sending it again simply because the user that found it has sent us this morning a very agressive letter and might sue us.

We have to give this customer an answer soon, have you any idea about what we can say ?

It will be fixed in 8.5.2 , in 9, never ?

8.5.2b9 9.0.0b1 It seems to me that the Create .... dialogs that appear when double klicking a tool are still broken. (VW 8.5.2 I noticed it first in VW 8.0) The last value typed is only accepted when the user uses the enter key to leave the dialog. If he or she klick OK the last value is forgotten. You can also klick in an other field or use tab to get VW to accept the value, but I think that that shouldn't be neccesary.

8.5.2b9 9.0.0a12 Rounded Rectangle / Object Info Palette

1. The rounded rectangle has two strange features, If you drag the 9th selection handle you can give a Rounded rectangle a corner diameter that is almost the size of the total rounded rectangle, But if you try this in the Object Info palette you can't assign a larger value then half the total size. (as if it calculates those values as the radius instead of the diameter)

I would prefer working with the radius anyway, but you don't need to change that if I'm the only one.

2. If you have a RRect that has symmetrical corners then you can't give it assymetrical corners in the OI palette. First drag the 9th selection handle so the corners aren't symmetrical anymore and now you can enter two different values for the corner diameters.
8.5.2b9 9.0.0a1 When tabbin on the data bar fields and hitting return, the value stay "locked" also after the operation complete, and it is necessary to tab again in the field, hit backspace then exit -using tab - from the field to see again the changing value.

8.5.2b9 9.0.0a3 Constraints - Constrain Working Plane (3D Only)

Select either the Cone, Sphere, Hemisphere, Extruded Rectangle, or Extruded Polygon tool from the 3D palette. When this tool is selected the Constrain Working Plane button is also automatically selected (turned on). Before the actual drawing begins this button can be turned off. This is not the behavior on the Mac. Should the Constrain Working Plane button be locked once a Cone, Sphere, etc., is selected? If so, what tools on the 3D palette should cause the Constrain Working Planes button to lock? With the ability to turn the button on/off at random, the on/off state is often visually incorrect.
